Hand Lettering on Walls – Painted Words

Hand lettering on walls is a very precise art. Painted words need to be level and centered in order for it to look good. Choosing a font and an interesting layout is important, too.

Fonts can also be created. See the words, “Don’t Worry Be Happy” ? The letters are painted in a made-up, bamboo font.  This bamboo lettering compliments the painted bamboo borders that surround both the windows and ceiling edges of this room.

Here are examples of hand-painted lettering in homes.

This Dr. Seuss quote is painted above a reading nook in this playroom. The books and painted words make this area inviting. The whole vibe makes me want to pick up a book and read someone a story.

Hand-painted lettering looks great in a baby nursery, too.

My client was feeling sunny inside as she awaited her babies arrival. The lyrics of the song “You are my Sunshine” was on repeat in her mind as she began decorating her nursery which inspired her idea. She thought it would be meaningful to paint lyrics from this song, onto her walls. That’s when she called me.

At our mural consultation, together we came up with another good idea. The idea to paint a yellow sun, with googly eyes and a happy face would look adorable with the lettering “You are my sunshine”. The sun adds a whimsical feeling and yet, still keeps the walls simple.

We strategically placed the sun so it smiling eyes look towards the crib.

The next 2 pictures show colorful circles with words hand-painted inside them.

These rooms are similar and yet different. Both girls picked their own words as well as the color schemes for their rooms.

This first picture shows a color scheme of turquoise, pink, white and black. Inspirational words were chosen, and look great, in the center of her circles.

The next room has a color scheme of pink, black and white. This fashionable diva loves pink and picked silly words for the centers of her circles.

Both girls rooms turned out really fun.

Hand-painted lettering can decorate stairway walls, too.

The most difficult part of painting on a stairway is figuring how to safely reach the highest area of wall that needs paint. Both of these stairway landings had a step-up in the middle, so I had to get creative in how I reached the top. Luckily I figured it out and was able to proceed.

This is a stairway wall with a painted prayer.

The next image shows a stairway with two hand-painted columns and text. The columns were very tall with vines wrapped around them. And text says, “The Lahham Family est 04-99”.

And here it is:

As an artist I’ve been asked to paint words on walls, in a variety of different places. Lettering can enhance walls in a home or a business.

Here’s some words painted on walls of businesses.

This text was painted for a Horror Podcast Show.

And these words were painted in Child Therapist Office above a mirror.

I painted words on the walls of a Spiritual Center, too. Notice how the gold paint compliments the frames and other decor. Words are strategically sprinkled around office walls in both the waiting room and the hallway.
These painted words give the Spiritual Center a cohesive element. The space looks balanced and interesting.

So far I’ve only showed you interior painted words.

Here is an example of hand lettered signage on an exterior wall of a businesses.

When this company called me for a small job, they wanted to refresh their storefront, and add their street address.

They had just repainted their base wall color up to the green line. And the large lettering at the top of the building above this line, would be staying put. So I was hired to match existing lettering, and add onto it.

Part of the phone number was already on the wall. But it was missing the area code. I had to draw the 818 to match the style and size of the other numbers. And I also had to make sure the green color matched the existing green color paint on the gate and other signage.

Mission accomplished. The existing green color and font match well. And now with the address painted directly onto the building, customers know they’ve arrived at the correct location.

Here is part of a restaurant mural I painted.

I painted Bon Appetit onto the wall in a fun font. I also painted the colorful dots. And see the wire chef clock? I hand-painted the spoon so it looks like he’s holding it.

The above examples are just a tiny part of what I’m able to paint.
