A flowering tree mural could be painted anywhere, but this one was painted in a playroom for an adorable girl.
What sort of mural could we paint that would be enjoyed for many years? Sam, her mom and I brainstormed and then the idea came to us – A tree mural!
Since kids often are enthusiastic about the latest fad and then flip a switch and are over it, we really wanted to think ahead.
We thought a flowering tree mural to be a good choice because it would be timeless. In fact a hand-painted tree with blossoms is a great mural for grown-up spaces, too. I want one in my house!
There was a sparkly chandelier on Sam’s ceiling, so we thought adding gems into the center of the blossoms would go with the decor and make the mural extra girly. Many girls like a little sparkle and shine!

Notice how the tree branches create a unique room border. My intention of the video is for you to be able to see how the painted tree creates a fun environment.
Sam really loved her tree and magical mushrooms!
We definitely co-created a beautiful and relaxing space for her to play in.

At first, I paint light and sketchy with very little detail.
Then I continued adding more details and fullness until the tree looked, just the right amount of full, for the room.
With just the right touches a painting goes from nice,
to … amazing!
Next – the gems!
Sam wanted pink and turquoise colored gems so I asked Sam and her friend pick out these colors from my gem stash.
They loved this task.
Sorting gems is fun and surprisingly relaxing.
I was also instructed to painted magical mushrooms. 
Sam wanted her mushrooms to be purple and turquoise.
It is really fun getting custom painting. We co-create together.
You tell me all of your favorite things and after we brainstorm about how the mural would look best, I paint it.
